How to clean your stainless steel appliances

Posted on November 26, 2015 by Anonymous

Stainless steel appliances never go out of style. In fact, they’re one of the most popular and readily available styles of appliances on the market. Stainless steel is particularly versatile because it’s a neutral colour. It can match and coordinate well with practically any décor, and even make the colours in your kitchen “pop.”

However, food spills, water marks, fingerprints, and other dirt and debris can build up on your stainless steel surfaces over time. That’s why it’s important to regularly clean them. If you’re unsure of how to properly clean your stainless steel appliances, don’t worry, it’s a lot simpler than you may think.

Tip #1

Always use a lint-free or microfibre cloth to clean your stainless steel appliances – to protect the appliance. While cleaning, be sure to keep the cloth in continuous contact with the stainless steel surface to avoid streaks or hazing.

Tip #2

Always apply your cleanser and/or polish in the same direction as the grain. Just like with wood, stainless steel also has a grain. Once you determine the direction of the grain (which will either run horizontally or vertically), apply your cleanser and rub in the direction of the grain. Keep in mind that a single appliance could have multiple grain directions, varying from part to part.

Tip #3

Polish your stainless steel appliance after cleaning it. Once you’ve gotten rid of any food stains or smudges with your cleanser, polish the stainless steel appliance. The polish will help the appliance maintain its luster, and can even help protect the surface from future stains.

Tip #4

You can use plain old vinegar (in a spray bottle) or a mild dish soap to clean your stainless steel appliances, and a very small amount of mineral oil (such as baby oil or olive oil) for polish. Goemans carries many manufacturer-recommended cleansers and polishes specific to your particular appliance(s) that will keep your stainless steel surfaces shining like new.
